Child-Resistant vs Tamper-Evident Caps

How the two closure types differ, when each is required, and how to specify them for glass bottles and jars.

child-resistant-vs-tamper-evident-caps
Child-resistant and tamper-evident closures solve different problems in packaging. Child-resistant caps are designed to slow access by young children, while tamper-evident features help buyers see whether a package has been opened or interfered with before use.
A single container can carry both functions, but the closure structure, liner, neck finish and product category must be matched together. For glass bottles and jars, this usually means confirming the thread finish, cap diameter, liner compatibility and any induction seal or break-band requirement early in development.
Regulatory requirements vary by market and formula type. Pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, essential oil and chemical products may all have different expectations, so packaging teams should confirm the target market before locking the cap style.
Use this guide as a starting point for supplier discussions: define the bottle material, neck finish, fill volume, product viscosity, required evidence feature and testing market before requesting samples.
